Having a shake at her school spirit night. Can you tell by that smile how excited she is to be around school friends?

turkey lurkey dee

I sing the Thanksgiving song to Winston a lot, because I always call him a turkey all the time. We had our first Thanksgiving together as a family of four...maybe ever? I usually work and David takes the kids back to Louisiana. But, the kids are old enough to really help cook, so we decided to make lunch/dinner together. They rocked the deviled eggs.

I'm thinking if you've never cooked without a shirt on, you've never lived.

They were trying to figure out a deal to decide which person was going to have to peel the "freckled" egg.
Hope you had a fabulous Thanksgiving. I'll try to squeeze in Halloween pics before Christmas!

Momma taught me good home training.

Birdie's school policy is that kids have to be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to school, so we got to play homeschool for a couple of days. Fun for me!!

these days

This is my last year at home with Winston.

Side note: He says he wants to homeschool for kindergarten.
Mr. Sweet Talker tells me it's because he'll miss me too much.
However, I've since found out it's because he thinks it will be too much hard work. He is not the biggest go-getter and doer of work there is. After one Mississippi of sweeping the kitchen yesterday, he was tired and needed a break. Not kidding.

Anyhow, during our full and sometimes very long days together, we do home pre-school, lots of cooking, backyard exploration, park swinging, library visiting, and cleaning. And when my camera is in reach, I document it.
Here he is trying some lemon slices:

spread your wings

We went to the Houston Arboretum last weekend. The weather was perfect. The mosquitoes were apocalyptic.
We survived, but Birdie had one mishap.
M: Birdie, what's wrong? You look a little freaked out.
B: A bumblebee just licked my arm. What do I do??

Oh, this man of mine. I'm twitterpated.

Whew. This boy has my heart.

Ready for some super cool nerdiness? We saw this butterfly in the flowers, and the kids asked for a picture. When I was going through the pictures later, I noticed it was tagged. I zoomed in and it had an email address and phone number. I called it and the recording asked for an email with all of the information. This little dude was released at Kansas University and is probably on his way to Mexico. Pretty cool, huh?

slow your roll

Girlfriend, it's not a good idea to peak at 6. Save some of that beauty for high school, at least!

rumpelstiltskin

I thought I would do a little post of mom and dad pics. You know, before we get too old and crusty and my rumples get too out of control.

Yes, I can hear you asking your screens, "But, wait. What are rumples?"

So glad you asked.

When my darling daughter was three and exploring my face--as you do--she was asking about all of my topography, if you will.

Sidenote, the kids have an ongoing bit about my rather exaggerated cleft chin and large-ish mole on it. The current story is that sometimes my booty chin (cleft, obviously) likes to sit on the toilet and read a newspaper and the mole is wearing a monocle in order to read the paper. Ah, the grace and loveliness of motherhood and the love of potty humor by children....

Anyhow, she was asking about my forehead and came up with this.

To get the full effect, it helps if you imagine a three-year-old sassy blondie waving a hand around over my forehead saying, after my explanation of pimples and wrinkles, "Yeah. I think I'm just going to call 'that whole thing' rumples."

I'm realizing I've never wanted to quote Rodney Dangerfield until just now.

where the sun is always out and you never get old

When we began this summer, I asked the kids about what kinds of classes/camps/activities they'd like. Birdie said if she could pick one thing, she'd want to take an art class. She's just like her momma in that sense. I love all things art and school, and I've especially been into watercolor lately. In August, Birdie's class finally rolled around, and she took a week-long course that taught her all about international art and different techniques for creating unique pieces. I remembered to pack some art supplies for us for vacation for the following week, and when we saw this view from our condo, I think we were both inspired. As of right now, Birdie wants to be an art teacher when she grows up. You know I'm excited about that!

You want to know my happy place? This entire scene:

My finished product. I think a seagull ran off with Birdie's.
