from the windows to the wall

I'm in the middle of redecorating the playroom, and I'm going to hang a bajillion pictures all over the walls (this is one). I had to explain to my sweet husband, "But, darling, my clients need to see examples of photo collages, and clearly, my examples from floor to ceiling and room to room are the only way they'll be able to do that. They need me. It's essentially a business obligation."
Please don't tell him there's this new handy dandy invention called Pinterest out there.

maydays

What a super fun and busy summer this has been! Before I know it, the school year will be here, so I need to catch you up on what we've been doing, since we're halfway through it already. I got a new phone in May, so I went back and pulled all my May photos off the old phone (which is really my way of saying...Ack! I can't stand the poor quality of the cell phone pictures, since this is what I do for a living, but that's what I had to capture the moment and sometimes you get what you get--and don't throw a fit.).
Our bad news for May was that Birdie hurt her arm pretty bad. She was at a sleepover at a friend's and fell off of the counter. Bummer. It took all of May and June to finally heal.

We had a ton of hummingbirds in our backyard at the beginning of May. But, once the month of rain came, they never came back.

Winston is sick of taking pictures for me.

What do you do when you're waiting for Big Sister to come home? Selfies on the front porch, of course.

This was our last school lunch with our girl. Going to see her at lunch was the best part of the school year.

The best part about living in Houston is that the pool season is practically year-round. Winston and I got to go all the time.

Bike riding in the 'hood. Lots of water breaks for this boy.

For Mother's Day, I had a shoot in Houston, so David got a hotel room for me to work in peace and quiet. Coincidentally, it was right next to the Galleria--Happy Mother's Day to me. This was the selfie my kids asked for to prove I was working (and this is why Birdie always wears pretend glasses).

I finally finished painting my kitchen cabinets in May. Woohoo!! I'll follow up with another post of before/during/after pics.

One of my all time favorite places to go is Old Town Spring. Winston loves to play on this train.

This dude loves a hat.

To celebrate Birdie's end of her first year of school, we had a mommy-daughter date and had high tea in Old Town Spring. I think this will definitely have to become an annual event.

Wahoo! We have our Bird back. We have been doing so many fun things. This is Pizza Planet up in Conroe.
If I can ever catch up on business, I'll post our June pictures. I hope you're having as much fun as we are!

turtle soup

Our very kind neighbors have the best little backyard oasis, and they let us swim whenever we'd like. Every once in a while, there's a turtle (or two) taking a dip in their pool.

puttin' 5 carrots in my baby girl's hand

All year long, I've been collecting little things from Birdie's school--drawings, photos, notes from school, etc.--to make a kindergarten book for her. I'm giving myself until the end of July to finally put it all together and send it off to print. I tried to include little notes here and there about things she's interested in, the clothes she likes to wear, the phrases she says, and so on. So, I asked her at one point about what she wanted to be when she grew up.
Farmer.
Winston was sweet enough to loan her his boots and shirt, and we ordered these cute overalls.
We waited until we had a few plants growing in our real, live garden (which she's helped maintain), ran to the store for carrots (because, yeah, right--let's get real, people. You think we'll ever be pulling something like this out of our garden?!), put on some makeup (after a small amount of begging), and snapped some pics.

Yep. Those are re-purposed crib rails.

The carrot part was inspired by a picture of me at age 3 holding carrots in the garden (on the hunt for it....), but her favorite veggie really is carrots, so she started eating the props in the middle of the shoot.

This just might be the prettiest girl on the planet.

And, yes, I will be present on the last day of school.

Well, friends, we have a first grader on our hands! Birdie completed her first year in school with flying colors. She loved it, but she has a little trepidation about first grade. She's worried she's going to get an F, because she's heard that's when you get real grades.

Here she is getting her certificate of completion from her sweet teacher. She and Birdie had a little moment there, because she had finally taught her teacher how to pronounce "Bacle." It's bay-cle, not bah-cle or baa-cle, in case you are interested. What do you think, Big D? Mind if we just go ahead and change the spelling?

And this special group? These are the recipients of the Citizenship Award! Our sweet girl received special recognition for being a hard worker and having a good attitude. We are so proud.

We wanted to end the year with a similar picture from her first day of school, so she decided to wear her same outfit and hold her certificate with its special citizenship seal.
