I did it all for the cookie.

I have a crush on this little dude. I can't say enough good things about him. Clearly, he feels the same.

Sitting on my lap this morning eating:
W: I just love you so much.
M: Oh, thank you! You're so sweet to me. I love you so much, too.
W: No. I talkin' 'bout the cookie.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch....

So, when Daddy and Daughter went on their date, Momma and Son had some one-on-one time together. This hasn't happened since last summer when Birdie had some gymnastics classes. Anyway, we had a wonderful time, just the two of us. He is the easiest, happiest little dude ever. As long as he has a car in one hand and a drink or snack in the other, he's pretty happy. We did lots of chores and lots of playing. He then came up to me with Birdie's Tiffany ring box.
Yes.
My 4-year-old keeps a Tiffany ring box in her room.
What's your point?
Have you forgotten she's a real-life princess?
Anyway, he came up to me, opened the box (after he found a ring in her vanity), put the ring on my finger, and said...wait for it..."That makes you a princess, and I'm your prince."
Dude, you are gonna make one little lady pretty darn happy in a few years.
Since I made such a big deal about how cute and sweet he was, he did it again a few days later, and I just had to take a picture.

daddy-daughter date night

David and Birdie went on their first ever daddy-daughter date last weekend. It was a glimpse into my future of being home with Winston when B goes to school in August (sniff, sniff).
Oh, and this is a sneak peak of our new couches and living room decor. Will post soon, promise!

baby LeBron

These days, Birdie is generally a good sleeper as far as sleeping through the night (and now I've just jinxed myself), but it's still tough to get her to go to sleep. So, once we've done the routine and we've read all of the books and sung all of the songs and said all of the prayers, she is allowed to stay up and "read" books to herself until she's ready to go to sleep. I came around the corner the other night to check on her and saw this cuteness (the Air Force ruined my eyeballs, so I have to wear reading glasses anytime I read or work on the computer).
I can't decide if she looks more like LeBron James or Sam Sparks.

wacky Wednesday

Not that my wee ones need an excuse to be wacky, but it was Wacky Wednesday last week at their My Gym class. They asked for pictures.

I used pipe cleaners to try to make her braids stick out.

the view

Do you remember our backyard view in Mass? We've been here for 4 years now, and we couldn't be happier. I do miss the beauty of Colorado and the seasons of Massachusetts, but I really love where we live now. Here are some backyard views:

We had a pair of bald eagles in the neighborhood for a couple of weeks.

Down the road. So Texas, right?

Birdie planted this flower in the front for me...(Winston promptly picked it.)

...and asked me to take a picture of the moon in the back.

cry, cry again

Birdie has been asking for many months now to get her hair cut short. I've been pushing back, because she has such beautiful ringlets. They are the kind that won't come back once they're cut. Permanent. Yes, it's long and difficult to manage, but she's my curly-haired baby. I kept trying to talk her out of it. So, she finally asked David about two weeks ago if he could talk to me about cutting it and ask if I would make her an appointment. Poor kid, but smart.
The morning of her appointment, she said: Haha! Say goodbye to my curls, momma!
She didn't have to rub it in.
I'm having a very emotional time lately about her starting Kindergarten in August, and this is just another reminder that she's not my baby girl anymore. Wah!

I made her an appointment at Sweet and Sassy--a little girl salon. Yes, they have such foolishness in the South. But, I wanted to make it a big deal and make her feel pampered, so here she goes:

Voila. My grown up girl. Wah, again. Yes, I cried twice.
She loves it, by the way. I'm adjusting. :)

You're my brown-eyed boy.

If you haven't heard, Winston kinda loves his big sister. He wants to be just like her. He has blue toenails right now, because she does. I asked him today if he wanted me to take it off, and he said, "No. Birdie has blue toenails."
So, his current big bum-me-out news is that he has brown eyes and Birdie has blue eyes. For two weeks straight, he asked at least once a day about the color of their eyes. The other day, he finally said, "When I ask you tomorrow, can you tell me I have blue eyes?"
The next day came, and he asked, so I asked him what he wanted me to say. He said, "I know I have brown eyes and Birdie has blue eyes." So dejected.
Sorry, dude. You can blame that one on me. You're still pretty stinkin' cute, though.

the boys

Hard day of working and hard day of playing.

I'll be there for you.

These three are going to be friends for many years (give it another year and Kate's little bro will be in this, too), so I need to make sure I get a picture of them when they were young every now and then.

a year ago in San Antonio

Except for one newborn shoot, I took February off from taking photos, so I don't have much to share. But, I wanted to put up a new post, so I went back to pics I've never posted and found these from our trip to San Antonio from February 2013.

Sweet friends.
