bed head

Birdie had just gotten up from a nap when I took these. Look at the sweet curls in the back...they sure look a lot like Daddy's baby pictures.

She did it!

brave new girl

Birdie used to be terrified of the vacuum, so I used to have to hold her while I cleaned. But one day, she saw me get it out, and she shook her finger at it and told it she was the boss. Ever since, she chases it around and wants to touch it. As usual, pretty cute.

summer

We have had such a wonderful summer so far:Do you see how nosy this kid is? She can't even focus on her ridiculously sugary snow cone. This was at our neighbor's birthday party last weekend.
These are from Waterway Square in The Woodlands.

So, I never posted anything about Father's Day, because the whole family was sick after a nasty virus infiltrated our play group. We celebrated a week later. Birdie made this "King Dad" hat for Daddy. I helped.

Birdie update

Birdie loves Daddy and has just started saying "buh-buh-buh" in the morning when he leaves. We have to go outside and watch him drive away in the mornings, or else she cries when he leaves.

Waiting for Daddy to come home:
Day sleeping: Much better! She had about a week or so where she tried to give up one nap, but I've been able to get her back to one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The good news is that about 50% of her naps are longer than 30 minutes now. And, if she does wake at the 30-min mark, I can usually get her back down for another 30 minutes or so.

Night sleeping: Unfortunately, pretty much the same. She usually wakes every two hours. Sometimes she makes things interesting and wakes up every hour.

Birdie is a very happy and curious baby. It's often hard to get pictures of her smiling, because she's usually so intrigued with what's going on around her. She loves people and watching animals. Her favorite thing to do is to point to items she's interested in, which often involves staring down and pointing at people. When I see her do it, I usually ask her to wave, which is much more polite.

She still loves reading books and can now answer what a dog, cow, and a duck say. She understands about two dozen words and can follow about a dozen two-step commands. Tonight she understood, "Hand me a book, and I'll read it to you." She grabbed one of her favorites, and then came and sat on my lap with it.

One of the sweetest parts of her personality is that she's very sensitive to doing something wrong. If she's ever scolded or given a firm "no," she gets very upset and starts crying. She's so sensitive, that I usually just say her name and shake my head (usually when she's trying to get into the fireplace) and she stops whatever she's not supposed to be doing. Since she's not allowed to touch inside the fireplace, she usually plays right in front of it as close as possible without getting into trouble. I wonder when I'll see this idea again when she's older.... We have a wonderful playgroup we're a part of, and we usually do one activity a week with them. Otherwise, we go to the pool and/or the park, meet Daddy for lunch, or we run errands every day to get us out of the house.

There's the update. I could go on and on about how wonderful she is and what fun she is every day, but Momma has to get a few minutes of sleep!

watermelon shopping

I had to find a way to weigh down this shopping cart, because she'd go so fast with it, that she'd often fall over.
When I first put the watermelon in it, I knew she thought it was cramping her style, because she started yelling at it and shaking her finger at it.
She cracks me up.
Anyway, this is one of three ways she walks right now. Another is to hold our hands while we walk laps (and laps and laps) around the house. The last one is she uses a chair we keep in the kitchen as an old lady walker (and snack station); she pushes it around and around the kitchen island.

weekend preview

Here's a sneak preview from our weekend trip to Corpus Christi. I am totally raising a beach baby!
