David bought me a beautiful bouquet and even bought a little tiny rose corsage for Birdie. She was a perfect angel.

10th anniversary
Yesterday was our 10th wedding anniversary, and David surprised me with renewing our vows. It was just our pastor and the little Bacle family. It was so perfect and the best anniversary we've ever had. I was pretty emotional, but I managed to hold it together!

capturing a smile
Our little girl is smiling now! Monday was the first day I knew for sure she was smiling for real--she responded to my smiles and silly talk all day. She was sitting in her chair, and I was putting away laundry for a few minutes. When I came back close to her and talked to her, she was so excited and smiled so big. It brought tears to my eyes.

sweet feet
This little pose and expression crack me up. I just adore my little Bird and her personality. She still wants me to hold her all the time, and we have such a sweet connection with each other, but I can already tell she's going to be very independent. She thinks she knows best. I think what I love the most is how much of a surprise she is. She doesn't act or look anything like I expected; she's just Birdie--unique in every way.
She was 4 weeks yesterday and already a big girl. She has moved from the bassinet next to our bed to sleeping in her crib at night. Her crib is still in our room, but it feels miles away to me. Don't you love this sheet on her crib mattress? A gift from Aunt B.

adventures in cloth diapering
Birdie’s umbilical cord stump finally came off yesterday, so I thought it would be a good time to start using our cloth diapers. I figure it will take a while to perfect, and it took a few minutes, but I was pretty proud of my first attempt. After about 60 seconds of a beautifully clean and clothed baby, I heard a strange noise followed by the unmistakable sound of a diaper explosion. Oh, well. But, despite her best effort, I’m sticking with it, and we’re trying them again today. Oh, and that strange noise I heard right before the dirty diaper? That was Birdie. Laughing at me.
Here's my little Bird in the moby wrap the Fortenberry family sent us. Sometimes it's the only thing that can get her to sleep for a nap. Thank you Forts!

2 new pics
So, they were tight and they definitely weren't my skinny pair, but I did it. I wore non-maternity jeans out to run errands for the first time yesterday! It's amazing how good a pair of pants can make you feel.
Here are two new pics:

Everyone wants to know...
For her first name, I like that she’s a yankee baby with a southern name. Also, I’ve always liked the sound and alliteration of Becky Bacle (David’s sister) and Billie Bacle (David’s mother); so that’s my way of giving her sort of a family name. For her middle name, we’ve always liked the word “august” and its definition. Additionally, this month is our 10-year anniversary, and we had been planning to go all out with a huge trip to Bermuda and gifts. Instead, we’ve received an even greater gift. I hope she likes it. We adore it.

1 week old
Our gal is a week old already! Aunt B is here visiting and is already spoiling Birdie (which was exactly what I was hoping for!) and got her this adorable dress and bow. One of these days I'll manage to take a picture where she's not scowling.
